The South Carolina Ports Authority (SC Ports) has appointed Micah Mallace as its next President and Chief Executive Officer, following a unanimous vote by the port’s board of directors.
Mallace returns to SC Ports after more than a decade in the maritime and logistics sector, including an earlier 11-year stint with the authority from 2011 to 2022, where he most recently served as chief commercial officer.
“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as the next President and CEO at SC Ports,” said Mallace, adding: “The port team and South Carolina’s broader maritime community provide port service that is unmatched, and I know, together, we will further strengthen our competitiveness.”
Chairman Bill Stern said Mallace’s mix of vision, operational expertise, and industry experience made him the clear choice to lead the port into its next growth phase. “Micah Mallace understands the significance and responsibility of what we do and how it influences global trade. We are extremely fortunate to have secured him as our new president and CEO,” Stern said.
Mallace succeeds Phil Padgett, who has served as interim president and CEO since early this year and will return to his role as chief of finance.
Before rejoining SC Ports, Mallace served as president of Harbor Logistics, a Charleston-based third-party logistics provider specialising in drayage, warehousing and transload services. He is scheduled to deliver his first State of the Port address on October 28, outlining strategic priorities and his vision for strengthening South Carolina’s maritime competitiveness.
SC Ports operates marine terminals at the Port of Charleston and two inland ports in Greer and Dillon, and ranks as the eighth-largest US container port.
