Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), a South African major operator, is looking for a private operator for the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Durban’s Maydon Wharf precinct.
TNPA has published a request for proposals (RFP) for companies to bid to design, develop, fund, construct, operate, and maintain the terminal for a 25-year concession period before transferring it back to TNPA. The deadline for RFP submissions has been set for 9 June.
Covering 145 hectares, the Maydon Wharf precinct has 15 berths with a yearly capacity to handle over 7 million tons of cargo, including dry and break bulk, as well as small volumes of liquid bulk and containers.
The eventual concessionaire will enter into an agreement with TNPA and will be responsible for the development of the terminal infrastructure required for operations, including sheds, offices, ablutions, canteens, fencing, security systems, paving, bulk services, communication systems, lighting, substations, and general machinery, plant and equipment.
The site consists of two leases, namely Lease L36049 and Lease L306091, with respective areas of approximately 12,270 m² and 12,860 m², with Lease L36049 being a brownfield site that includes the main administration building, an office block and a workshop.
