Seven Islands Shipping ramps up investment in clean tanker fleet

Mumbai-based coastal and domestic tanker operator Seven Islands Shipping is accelerating its pivot toward clean tonnage with the quiet acquisition of a third clean tanker.
The company has emerged as the buyer of the 2008-built Prosper, formerly known as Songa Kari, from Norway’s Songa Chemicals. This latest addition brings the total number of clean tankers in Seven Islands’ portfolio to three.
Earlier this year, the Fairfax Financial Holdings-backed firm acquired the 13,200 dwt Owl 3, a 2010-built clean tanker, for $11m. This followed its initial foray into clean tonnage at the end of 2024.
Seven Islands has also made strides on the international front. In 2023, it reflagged two MR tankers to the Marshall Islands registry—a first for the company, as the rest of its fleet remains under the Indian flag.
According to VesselsValue, the company now operates a fleet of 28 tankers, with an average fleet age of 19 years.
