Seatrium Offshore Technology, the offshore jackup designer for Singapore shipyard group Seatrium, has been awarded a repeat contract from International Maritime Industries (IMI) to supply equipment and the license for a self-elevating drilling unit.
This follows IMI signing an agreement with ARO Drilling to build an offshore drilling rig in Saudi Arabia named Kingdom 4. The rig will be built at IMI’s 12m sq m yard in Ras Al-Khair.
The design used will be the LeTourneau Super 116E Class design, identical to the one used on Kingdom 3, the first rig built in Saudi Arabia by IMI for ARO Drilling.
As with Kingdom 3, the design will feature 343-foot legs, 680,000 kg hook load capacity, and advanced cyber systems. Both rigs are part of the next generation of jackup designs customised for operational requirements within the Middle East and North Africa region.
According to Seatrium, the Kingdom 4 award marks the 45th order for the LeTourneau Super 116 series, making it one of the most widely deployed jackup designs globally.
Seatrium has designed and contributed to the construction of more than half of all jackup rigs in service worldwide, including 65% of those operating in the Middle East.
Kingdom 4 will be the fourth rig to be built under the ARO Drilling – IMI partnership. The two plan to construct a total of 20 jackups in the country.
