Offshore rig owner Seadrill has completed the sale of its only cold-staked jackup – the West Prospero.
Seadrill sold the West Prospero for cash proceeds of $45m. The 2007-built rig has been cold-stacked since 2016.
Its last contract was from May 2014 until May 2016 with Lundin Energy which has been a part of Aker BP since 2022.
The offshore driller has three more cold-stacked rigs – the 2008-built West Aquarius, the 2011-built West Eclipse and the 2011- West Phoenix. However, all three are semisubs.
The only jackup that remains in Seadrill’s fleet is the West Elara which is currently working for ConocoPhillips under a 10-year deal set to end in May 2028.
The rest of the fleet consists of 12 active drillships and the 2013-built circular hull semisub Sevan Louisiana on contract with Walter Oil & Gas. The company had a backlog of around $2.3bn in mid-November.
“With the sale of the West Prospero, we have monetised a non-core asset that has been stacked since 2016 and successfully executed our strategy to exit the benign jack-up market,” said president and CEO of Seadrill Simon Johnson.
