Similar to airlines, cruise lines sometimes oversell cabins in anticipation of cancellations and no-shows. While rebooking a flight is typically manageable, an overbooked cruise can present more complications, particularly for travelers with extended sea plans. In cases where cruise lines’ overbooking strategy doesn’t succeed, passengers may feel abandoned.

Raynor, who had a challenging experience with Royal Caribbean, expressed concerns about the difficulty of rebooking. His wife, who is about to become a teacher, faced restrictions due to the school’s vacation schedule, making it more challenging to find alternative cruise options. Despite Royal Caribbean’s generally positive reputation, Raynor remarked that this incident has left a negative impression, stating, “It’s disappointing to have to postpone our vacation for a year. We’re optimistic that the next experience will help make up for it.
