Rhenus Logistics has expanded its operations near Rome with the opening of Riano 2, a new logistics facility designed to strengthen its presence in Central and Southern Italy.
The new site marks a major step in Rhenus’ domestic growth strategy, extending the company’s network beyond its traditional base in Northern Italy. The facility allows Rhenus to shift from partner-based operations to direct management in the region, improving efficiency, service quality, and control over logistics processes.
“In a market where suitable warehouse space is hard to find, Riano 2 represents an important investment for us,” said Guglielmo Davide Tassone, Managing Director of Rhenus Logistics Italy. “It enhances our capabilities around Rome and strengthens our reach towards Southern Italy. This move allows us to serve our customers more directly and efficiently, especially in the growing e-commerce sector.”
Riano 2 boosts capacity for domestic distribution and Transport Related Warehousing (TRW), enabling faster and more reliable deliveries. The site is equipped with modern machinery for e-commerce packaging. Also, the site is tailored to support startups and growing online retailers looking for scalable logistics solutions.
The existing Riano 1 warehouse covers 42,000 square metres, while Riano 2 adds over 5,600 square metres of new space with a 12-metre height under beam, 59 loading doors, and capacity for up to 5,000 pallets.
With this expansion, Rhenus reinforces its commitment to developing robust logistics infrastructure across Italy. The company aims to position the country as a key logistics hub for Southern Europe. Lastly, the aim is to support both national and international transport flows with reliable, flexible, and customer-focused solutions.
