Port of Oakland leaders presented their strategic objectives for the upcoming five years. The annual ‘State of the Port’ event, sponsored by the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association and Women in Logistics, which was fully booked and also streamed live, took place at Scott’s Pavilion in Oakland’s Jack London Square on 26 February.

Port of Oakland Executive Director Danny Wan expressed his gratitude to the Port’s longstanding business partners, customers, communities, and elected officials.

Board President Michael Colbruno highlighted the Californian port’s role as the region’s primary economic driver, saying the port catalyzes local prosperity with innovative logistics solutions and operational excellence, acting as a fundamental economic force.

Incoming Executive Director Kristi McKenney outlined the Port’s Strategic Plan, which aims to guide business development, achieve zero emissions, and enhance community engagement.

The strategic plan for the next five years includes six main objectives:

  1. Expanding market presence and economic base
  2. Upgrading and modernizing infrastructure
  3. Transitioning to zero emissions and enhancing climate resilience
  4. Optimizing land use and increasing revenues
  5. Developing workforce training and job opportunities
  6. Fostering local business growth and community economic development
