The Port of Long Beach has appointed Suzanne Plezia, P.E., as its new Managing Director of Engineering Services, succeeding Sean Gamette, P.E., who announced his retirement earlier this spring.

Plezia has served as the Port’s Senior Director of the Engineering Services Bureau and Chief Harbor Engineer since April 2017.

In her new role, Plezia will lead the Port’s Engineering Bureau, which encompasses more than 300 professionals across six divisions: Program Management, Construction Management, Project Controls, Survey, Engineering Design, and Maintenance.

She will oversee the execution of a US$3.2 billion, ten-year capital improvement program aimed at expanding the Port’s capacity, advancing sustainability, and reinforcing its competitive edge.

Harbor Commission President Bonnie Lowenthal noted that her leadership has been instrumental in delivering key modernization projects, and we are confident she will continue to be a driving force in shaping the Port’s future.

Among the major projects under Plezia’s leadership will be the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility and essential infrastructure to enable the Port’s transition to zero-emissions operations.

The Port has also proposed “Pier Wind,” which would become the nation’s largest offshore wind turbine assembly facility based at a port.
