The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas handled more than 24.6 million tonnes of cargo by the end of October 2025.
This strong performance confirms the port’s position as one of Mexico’s leading logistics hubs. Imports accounted for 63% of total cargo, exports for 27%, and coastal shipping (cabotage) for 10%. Containerised cargo made up 48% of throughput. Mineral bulk represented 32%. The remaining 20% included automotive cargo, general cargo, agricultural bulk, liquids, and petroleum products.
Container traffic grows by 9%
The port handled 2,161,847 containers during the period. This represents a 9% increase compared with the same period in 2024.
Imports accounted for 29% of container traffic. Exports represented 28%. Transhipment made up the remaining 43%. Cargo movement relied mainly on trucking, which carried 75% of containers. Rail transport accounted for the remaining 25%.
Vehicle handling rises by 7%
Automotive terminals handled 617,693 vehicles by the end of October. This marked a 7% year-on-year increase.
Imports dominated volumes at 72%. Exports followed at 26%. Transhipment represented just 2%. The figures highlight strong confidence from global vehicle manufacturers and reinforce the port’s strategic role in Mexico’s automotive supply chain.
Vessel calls increase by 5%
The port handled more than 1,493 vessel calls during the period. This represented a 5% increase compared with last year.
The figures demonstrate the port’s ability to handle next-generation vessels and support rising trade volumes.
