Port Houston continued its strong performance in April 2025, handling 387,478 TEUs across its public terminals, a 20% year-over-year increase and a new record for April container volumes.
This follows a record-setting March, underscoring sustained momentum at one of the nation’s fastest-growing ports.
Year-to-date, Port Houston has moved 1,456,173 TEUs through April, a 4% rise compared to the same period last year.
In April alone, loaded containerized imports surged 21%, while loaded exports rose by 16% compared to April 2024.
Total loaded volumes reached 316,543 TEUs, reflecting a 19% year-over-year increase.
Although refrigerated imports account for a smaller share of the total, containerized reefer volumes rose 46% in April—driven by peak season demand for citrus and other fruits.
At the port’s multipurpose terminals, steel imports climbed 40% in April and are up 17% year-to-date.
General cargo volumes also posted strong results, increasing 18% year-to-date. Altogether, total tonnage handled across Port Houston’s public facilities reached 18,087,097 tons through the end of April—up 3% compared to last year.
Charlie Jenkins, CEO of Port Houston, noted that over the past decade, Port Houston’s container volumes have grown faster than any other major US port.
In recent weeks, Port Houston welcomed several high-level international delegations, strengthening global trade ties and advancing strategic collaboration.
Officials from the United Kingdom, Panama, and Guyana met with port leadership to discuss infrastructure investments, progress on Project 11 (the effort to deepen and widen the Houston Ship Channel), and sustainable supply chain initiatives.
