Port Houston is poised to close 2024 as one of its most successful years, having already handled around 3.8 million TEUs in the January-November period, translating to a 9% increase compared to the same period last year.

November alone saw a record-breaking 369,361 TEUs, marking a 24% year-over-year surge and the highest monthly container volume of the year.

Charlie Jenkins, CEO of Port Houston, stated: “This year has been nothing short of exceptional. Our record-breaking volumes speak to the trust our customers place in us, the dedication of our team, and our strategic investments to stay ahead of industry needs. The momentum we’ve built in 2024 lays the groundwork for continued growth next year and beyond.”

Loaded imports climbed 19% in November, driven by strong demand for consumer goods and machinery, while loaded exports rose 16%, bolstered by robust resin shipments. Resins, which make up 45% of the US port’s export volumes, highlight Houston’s position as the nation’s leading gateway for this critical commodity.

At Port Houston’s multi-purpose facilities, general cargo volumes have dipped 3% year-to-date, though steel imports jumped 34% in November. Total tonnage across all public facilities has increased by 5% this year, reaching 48,466,585 tons.
