Pacific International Lines (PIL) has marked a historic first in Ghana with the naming of its latest 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel, Kota Odyssey, at the Port of Tema. The vessel is part of PIL’s new “O” Class series and was named by Her Excellency Ms Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
Ghanaian ministers of Transport and Energy also attended, highlighting government support for sustainable maritime growth.
The vessel will operate on PIL’s South West Africa Service (SWS), linking China, Singapore, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire via a direct weekly service.
PIL CEO Lars Kastrup said naming the ship in Ghana underscores the company’s long-term commitment to the country and West Africa. “Ghana is a vital hub in our network, and we are focused on delivering sustainable shipping and logistics solutions for the region,” he said.
PIL has operated in Africa since the 1970s, serving over 30 countries and connecting more than 40 ports. Its West Africa regional head office is based in Ghana, where PIL powers all operations with locally sourced renewable energy.
