Peninsula, a leading independent marine energy supplier, has expanded its physical supply operations to Algoa Bay, South Africa. This move follows the company’s successful operations in Mauritius, Egypt, and its growing Intra-African reselling network.
The launch is in partnership with Linsen Nambi, a South African logistics and bunker barge operator. The collaboration will leverage local expertise to deliver reliable and efficient services in Algoa Bay.
Port Elizabeth and Coega Port, located within Algoa Bay, sit on major international shipping routes. This makes the area an ideal hub for bunkering. From October, Peninsula will provide HSFO and VLSFO bunkering services directly from the port, enabling vessels to refuel on one of the world’s busiest maritime routes.
John A. Bassadone, CEO of Peninsula, said the expansion reflects the company’s commitment to consistent product availability. “Linsen Nambi’s local expertise has been invaluable in preparing for this launch,” he added.
Guillermo Cancela, Regional Supply Manager for the Middle East and Africa, highlighted the operational advantages. “Algoa Bay allows vessels to bunker without berthing, reducing waiting times and costs. Combined with our Mauritius operations, we can create strong synergies and offer reliable service across the region.”
Durand Naidoo, CEO of Linsen Nambi, welcomed the partnership. “Peninsula’s entry is a strong vote of confidence in South Africa’s bunker industry. It strengthens Algoa Bay’s role in global shipping and benefits the region’s growth.”
The launch aligns with new regional regulations and offers ship operators more bunkering options in South Africa.
