Green energy company ScottishPower Renewables and Peel Ports Group are investing over US$13.1 million in the Port of East Anglia in Great Yarmouth to support construction of ScottishPower’s US$5.2 billion East Anglia TWO windfarm.

The multi-million pound investment will fund substantial upgrades to the port’s North Terminal, enabling pre-assembly and load-out of 64 wind turbines for the clean energy project while supporting 100 jobs.

Upgrade works will ensure the port can accommodate latest-generation Siemens Gamesa offshore wind turbines deployed on East Anglia TWO, including 115-meter blades manufactured in Hull.

Works will include construction of a second heavy lift pad on the North Terminal for turbine tower pre-assembly before loading onto installation vessels, expansion and enhancement of port storage areas to accommodate larger components, and deployment of larger capacity cranes.

The Port of East Anglia investment demonstrates ScottishPower’s commitment to the region the heart of its UK offshore wind operations and further establishes East Anglia’s reputation as a leading offshore renewables industry hub.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed the investment, alongside a suite of renewables projects, upon arriving at COP30 in Brazil, stating that creating skilled, well-paid jobs across Great Yarmouth, Belfast and Greater Manchester, this is national renewal in action championing the interests of working people throughout the country.

Charlie Jordan, CEO of ScottishPower Renewables, commented: “This investment signals a continued commitment to the region, almost ten years after supporting an investment in the port to enable construction of the first project, East Anglia ONE, and solidifying Lowestoft as a permanent base for our East of England offshore wind projects.

Claudio Veritiero, CEO at Peel Ports Group, expressed its gratitude for the continuous long-standing relationship with Scottish Power Renewables with the pre-assembly phase of the East Anglia TWO development, utilizing The Port of East Anglia’s excellent facilities.

Situated 33 kilometers off the Suffolk coast, East Anglia TWO’s 64 turbines will generate capacity up to 960MW of green electricity sufficient to power the equivalent of almost one million homes.

Offshore construction is expected to commence in 2027, with the windfarm becoming operational in 2028.
