Container port traffic in Panama recorded growth of 3.6% in 2025, reaching a total of 9.9 million TEUs compared with the previous year. The increase reflects the positive performance of the country’s port system and its strategic importance for regional maritime trade.

Figures released by the Directorate General of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries of the Panama Maritime Authority show mixed performance across terminals, with several key facilities posting notable gains.

SSA Marine Manzanillo International Terminal handled 2,861,352 TEUs, representing growth of 5%. Panama Ports Company’s Balboa terminal processed 2,676,768 TEUs, up 2%, while Colon Container Terminal recorded one of the strongest performances with 1,736,582 TEUs, an increase of 10%. Panama Ports Company’s Cristóbal terminal handled 1,210,528 TEUs, up 9%.

By contrast, Panama International Terminal at PSA Rodman handled 1,354,708 TEUs, a decline of 2%, while Bocas Fruit recorded 75,419 TEUs, down 53%.

Overall, the 2025 results highlight the resilience of Panama’s port sector, supported by rising demand for port services, strong logistics connectivity and the country’s strategic role within global supply chains.

Commenting on the figures, Max Florez, Director General of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries, said that growth was also seen in the repositioning of empty containers, reinforcing Panama’s importance as a regional hub for equipment redistribution.

The performance confirms Panama’s position as a leading logistics platform in the Americas, capable of adapting to international trade dynamics while maintaining competitiveness in a changing global environment.
