The operators of San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI), Chile’s largest container terminal, have had their contract extended by five years through to 2030, in a deal that sees the port expand its box handling capacity by 30% to 1.6m teu a year.
“In recent years we have implemented an intensive capex plan, investing $66m, of which $47m was to extend the concession. This not only lets us continue to operate the port, but also to continue delivering excellent, safe service for foreign trade, positioning San Antonio Terminal Internacional as the most efficient, most important port in Chile and one of the leading ports in the Southern Cone,” said STI general manager Andrés Albertini. The terminal is operated by Seattle-based SSA Marine and Chile’s SAAM.
The port of San Antonio is located less than 100 km west of the capital, Santiago. It has three berths and depths alongside of 15.5 m.
