Dublin Port has opened Phase Two of its new Terminal 4 (T4) RoRo depot, adding 160 trailer spaces and boosting capacity by more than 100,000 truck movements annually. The €11.7 million investment reflects the port’s strategy to expand its unaccompanied RoRo trade, which now accounts for around 75% of all RoRo freight.
T4 will be operated by Doyle Shipping Group (DSG), supporting cargo movements between Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe.
Senior Project Engineer Howard Costelloe said the project delivers “much needed new capacity for our RoRo land operations,” noting the challenges of redeveloping a brownfield site with remnants of fertilizer plants from the 1950s. Despite historic contamination, over half of the excavated material was reused in the terminal’s construction, meeting sustainability goals.
The facility replaces former empty container storage areas, which have been relocated to Dublin Inland Port. Since 2018, the land used for non-core activities at Dublin Port has fallen from 40 hectares to just 8 hectares, allowing greater prioritisation of essential operations.
