The Province of North Holland is starting the project decision procedure for wind turbines in the port of Amsterdam.
The project is currently in the exploration phase. Companies, residents, and other stakeholders will be involved in the process.
After this phase, the Province will take a project decision that determines whether the wind turbines will be built and under what conditions and regulations.
The Province of North Holland and the City of Amsterdam want to increase wind energy capacity generated in the region.
These ambitions are described in the Regional Energy Strategy and the City of Amsterdam’s Wind Amsterdam Programme.
Based on these programmes, the Amsterdam port area has been identified as a suitable location for installing additional wind turbines. The current plan includes a maximum of 25 turbine positions, including the potential replacement of 14 existing wind turbines.
The Province of North Holland is the competent authority for this project, means that the Province is responsible for the decision-making process once an application for new wind turbines is submitted.
