Shipping lines will introduce updated Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) surcharges from February 1, 2026. These will cover Pacific regional trades and services linking Australia and New Zealand with the US West Coast.
For shipments to and from the US West Coast, the BAF will be set at US$478 per TEU, or US$27.31 per revenue ton. The surcharge applies in both directions between the US West Coast and Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific Islands.
An additional Emissions Control Charge of US$25 per TEU will also apply to all cargo moving to and from the US West Coast. Dry and reefer bunker rates will be aligned on this trade.
Separate BAF levels will apply across Pacific regional routes. From February 1, the surcharge will range from US$144 per TEU on Australia–New Zealand services to US$502 per TEU on inter-island trades. Rates between New Zealand and the South Pacific Islands, and between Australia and the islands, will vary depending on the route.
Reefer cargo will be charged at a coefficient of 1.5 times the dry rate. There is an exception on US-related trades where dry and reefer rates remain the same. Additional low sulfur fuel and specific trade-related BAF charges will be communicated separately.
The surcharge applies to all shipments unless otherwise specified.
