Denmark’s Port of Aarhus has signed an agreement with MSC for the lease of land, where the world’s largest container shipping company will establish a new box terminal.

Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), MSC Group’s container terminal operator, will move into the Omniterminal, which is currently being finalized.

Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Port of Aarhus, commented, “We are pleased that MSC Group and TiL see Port of Aarhus as an attractive port and are now choosing to invest in establishing a container terminal. This provides businesses with more opportunities to trade with the world, strengthens our competitiveness, and reinforces our role in ensuring Danish supply to the benefit of businesses and Denmark.”

MSC in battle with Maersk for Denmark’s largest container port

The agreement between MSC and the Danish port means that TiL will lease approximately 170,000 m² in the Omniterminal, where they will establish and operate their own container terminal.

The terminal is expected to be fully developed by 2027, at which time MSC Group and TiL will be able to start using the area.

After the construction of the planned terminal, Denmark’s two largest container terminals will be located at the port of Aarhus.

Aarhus to compete for stronger position among North European ports, with either Maersk or MSC at the helm
