Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has formed a strategic partnership with carbon removal registry Isometric to support its net zero strategy. Isometric will issue verified carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits for MOL. MOL targets net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

“High-quality carbon removal credits are a key part of MOL’s strategy to address residual emissions on the path to net zero,” said Daisuke Fujihashi, General Manager of MOL’s Carbon Solution Development Unit. He added that Isometric’s rigorous and transparent verification approach underpins the partnership.

As part of the agreement, Isometric will serve as the registry for MOL’s 10,000-tonne Enhanced Weathering offtake with Alt Carbon. The partnership gives MOL access to carbon removal credits certified under the Isometric Standard.

“This partnership reflects growing demand for transparent and scientifically rigorous carbon removal,” said Eamon Jubbawy, CEO of Isometric. “MOL is setting the pace for decarbonization in shipping, and we are pleased to support its journey to net zero.”

Isometric has developed protocols covering 17 carbon removal technologies, including Enhanced Weathering, Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement, biochar, and reforestation. Six of these protocols have received approval from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market under the Core Carbon Principles label.

Earlier this year, Isometric launched Certify, a digital verification platform that enables monthly credit issuance. The platform shortens the traditional annual cycle and helps project developers secure regular revenue to scale their operations.
