Qingdao Beihai Shipyard has placed an order for 10 Everllence B&W 7G80ME-LGIM methanol-fuelled engines to power a series of 325,000 dwt Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOCs). The vessels are being built for Shandong Shipping Corp. and Bohai Ocean Shipping Co. Ltd. and will go on long-term charter to Brazilian mining giant Vale S.A., transporting iron ore from Brazil to China.

Each engine will be fitted with Everllence’s EGRTC system, enabling compliance with IMO Tier III NOx regulations.

“These newbuildings demonstrate that methanol is taking a prominent role in decarbonising the bulk carrier segment,” said Bjarne Foldager, Head of Two-Stroke Business at Everllence. “They will be capable of carbon-neutral operations when running on green methanol.”

With more than 230 methanol engine orders and over 600,000 operating hours logged, Everllence’s ME-LGIM technology is now the industry standard for large methanol-fuelled vessels.
