Maersk has returned to New Times Shipbuilding (NTS) with an order for eight 18,000 teu LNG dual-fuel containerships, according to multiple broking reports, with options for four more, at around $193m apiece. Deliveries are slated for 2028 and 2029.
The deal marks the latest phase in Maersk’s major fleet renewal drive and further deepens its partnership with the Jiangsu yard. Over the next four years, the Danish carrier is already due to take delivery of 26 LNG dual-fuel newbuildings from NTS, a mix of owned ships and long-term chartered tonnage. The pipeline includes ten 16,800 teu vessels (split between five from SFL Corp and five from Seaspan), six owned 15,000 teu units, and ten 8,700 teu ships from Capital Ship Management.
Once the new 18,000 teu series is delivered, Maersk will have received more than 30 large LNG-powered ships from NTS alone.
