MacGregor will supply cargo access solutions and deck machinery for four new major vessels under BC Ferries’ fleet renewal programme. The vessels will use diesel-battery hybrid systems and will be all-electric-ready.

China Merchants Industry will build the vessels at CMI Weihai Shipyard. MacGregor booked the order in the first quarter of 2026.

MacGregor will deliver cargo access equipment and a full Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) package. Its joint venture will supply the deck machinery. Together, these systems will support long-term performance and reliability.

The equipment will improve fleet resilience and schedule efficiency. The standardised design will simplify crew operations and speed up loading and unloading to meet rising passenger demand.

The new 172-metre ships will operate on BC Ferries’ busiest routes between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland in Canada. The vessels feature advanced battery systems and low-noise propellers to reduce environmental impact and protect marine life.

“Our goal is to build a ferry system that is reliable, sustainable, and ready for future growth,” said Nicolas Jimenez, President and CEO of BC Ferries. “MacGregor’s commitment helps us deliver a modern ferry experience and maintain strong connections between coastal communities.”

“This order confirms our ability to deliver tailored solutions through close collaboration,” said Magnus Sjöberg, Executive Vice President, Merchant Solutions Division at MacGregor. “It reflects the strength of our global expertise.”

“The ILS package ensures high equipment availability and long-term technical support,” said Tomas Hakala, Executive Vice President, Global Services Division at MacGregor. “It supports the full lifecycle of the vessels.”
