Kongsberg Maritime has executed an agreement with STM to deliver fuelling-at-sea and replenishment-at-sea systems for two Portuguese naval supply and logistics vessels.
Turkish naval shipbuilder STM will design and construct these ships.
The Portuguese navy’s current single replenishment vessel will be succeeded by these two new ships. The new 137-meter AOR+ vessels will feature 11,000-tonne displacement, achieve maximum speeds of 18 knots, and maintain 90-day operational endurance at sea.
Personnel accommodation will support up to 100 crew members, with transport capacity for 20 light tactical armored vehicles. Each vessel will incorporate air defense systems and provide helicopter and UAV operational support.
The STM-Portuguese navy agreement represents STM’s inaugural naval vessel delivery to a European Union and NATO member nation.
This marks the second partnership between STM and Kongsberg Maritime.
Kongsberg Maritime’s FAS systems incorporate decades of operational experience and research development.
The company pioneered electrically operated RAS/FAS technology, delivering accelerated deployment capabilities and enhanced safety performance in cold-weather conditions.
Chris Nelson, Naval Sales Director for Kongsberg Maritime, commented that global naval forces are demonstrating increased interest in effective RAS/FAS systems, and such solutions provide proven safety, efficiency, and operational reliability.
