Kongsberg Discovery’s Mobile Broadband Radio (MBR) MK3 series has earned DD1494 certification from the U.S. Department of Defense. The approval allows the system to be used across U.S. military operations.

The MBR MK3 operates in the 4.400–5.000 GHz range. It meets strict DoD standards for spectrum use. The system avoids interference with other military communications. It also protects against spoofing and jamming. With certification, the radios can now be deployed and funded in DoD programs.

Vidar Bjørkedal, Kongsberg Discovery’s VP, said the certification is a “major step forward.” He added it proves the system can deliver secure, high-performance communications for both military and commercial maritime operations.

MBR ensures reliable, high-speed data links between ships, shore stations, and unmanned vehicles. It boosts situational awareness and speeds up decision-making in complex maritime environments.

With both DoD and FCC approval, Kongsberg can now serve U.S. defense agencies and commercial operators. The systems are built to perform even in contested or GPS-denied areas.
