Kalmar has secured an order for 30 hybrid straddle carriers from Maher Terminals LLC. The machines will operate at the Maher Terminals marine container terminal in New Jersey.
The major order was booked in Kalmar’s fourth quarter 2025 order intake. Delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Maher Terminals operates North America’s largest marine container terminal at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The company is one of the world’s largest privately held, multi-user container terminal operators. Maher recently signed a 33-year lease extension agreement with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to support growing trade.
The new hybrid straddle carriers are part of Maher Terminals’ ongoing fleet renewal program. The order will maintain the company’s total fleet of Kalmar straddle carriers at over 270 machines.
The carriers will feature the Kalmar Collision Warning System. The system improves safety by alerting operators to potential collision risks using visual and audible alarms. Maher Terminals partnered with Kalmar to develop the system and began testing it in 2022. The company plans to retrofit its entire fleet with the technology in the coming years.
Lou Allora, Chief Engineer at Maher Terminals, highlighted the partnership’s longevity. “Over four decades of working with Kalmar we have built a rock-solid partnership based on openness and transparency,” he said. The hybrid machines will help reduce fuel consumption and local emissions while improving safety and comfort for ILA operators.
Troy Thompson, Head of Sales for Horizontal Transportation at Kalmar Americas, said the order extends a long-standing relationship. He noted that Maher’s continued investment in modern equipment maintains its reputation as North America’s premier marine container terminal.
