K Line Energy Shipping (KLES), a London-based unit of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, has signed an MoU with Havstjerne ANS to advance solutions for the Havstjerne CO₂ storage licence on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Havstjerne ANS is a partnership between Harbour Energy Norge and Stella Maris CCS, a Yinson Production subsidiary.

The agreement focuses on developing marine-based transport and storage solutions using liquefied CO₂ carriers and a floating storage and injection unit (FSIU). The partners aim to bring these technologies to maturity, creating a cost-effective CO₂ value chain for emitters across Northern Europe.

The Havstjerne licence lies in the North Sea, around 100 km southwest of Egersund, and is considered well positioned to serve key ports in the region. Harbour Energy operates the licence with a 60% stake, while Yinson’s Stella Maris CCS holds the remaining 40%.

Yinson Production brings expertise in offshore engineering and has been expanding into carbon capture and storage since 2021. K Line, meanwhile, has decades of experience operating liquefied gas carriers and is already managing two CO₂ carriers for the world’s first commercial CCS service.

Lastly, K Line said the collaboration supports its Environmental Vision 2050 and reflects its commitment to advancing carbon capture and storage solutions that contribute to global decarbonisation.
