Shanghai-listed Jinjiang Shipping has returned to the yards, lining up fresh feeder tonnage as it looks to strengthen its intra-Asia network.
The Shanghai International Port Group-controlled carrier has committed to up to four 1,182 teu containerships, with two firm units and two options. Deliveries are expected by 2027.
Tender documents name SUMEC Marine as the primary yard, with Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry and Huanghai Shipbuilding ranked behind it.
The vessels will measure 147.9 m in length with a breadth of 23.25 m, a draft of 8.5 m, and a designed speed of 18.5 knots and 145 reefer plugs.
Jinjiang is ranked by Alphaliner as the 35th largest liner operator with 51 ships totalling about 56,400 teu, of which 26 are owned. The company last ordered newbuilds in late 2021, two 1,900 teu ships at Yangfan Zhoushan that were delivered last year. The move comes as Jinjiang reports improved profits and continues to expand routes across Asia, South Asia and the Middle East, building on its niche role in regional trades.
