Japan’s Big 6 Ports record growth in foreign-trade containers

Japan’s six major ports handled a combined 1.18 million TEUs of foreign-trade containers in June, a 3.5% increase year-on-year, marking the seventh consecutive month of growth, according to preliminary figures from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Exports reached 592,004 TEUs (+2.5%), while imports totaled 586,211 TEUs (+4.4%).

Tokyo processed 368,391 TEUs (+4.2%), including 164,134 TEUs of exports (+0.4%) and 204,257 TEUs of imports (+7.5%).

Kawasaki handled 6,845 TEUs (–2.3%), with exports at 3,372 TEUs (–1.3%) and imports at 3,473 TEUs (–3.2%).

Yokohama recorded 241,244 TEUs (+4.2%), comprising 133,628 TEUs of exports (+6.2%) and 107,596 TEUs of imports (+1.9%).

Nagoya managed 214,667 TEUs (+2.5%), with exports of 114,020 TEUs (+2.4%) and imports of 100,647 TEUs (+2.6%).

Osaka handled 169,959 TEUs (+2.3%), including 79,682 TEUs of exports (+3.8%) and 90,277 TEUs of imports (+1.1%).

Kobe processed 177,129 TEUs (+3.3%), with exports of 97,168 TEUs (+0.7%) and imports of 79,961 TEUs (+6.8%).
