Iran and Uzbekistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing shipping and logistics cooperation, opening the door for Uzbek private sector investment in Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port.
The MoU was formalized in Tehran by Bekzod Kholmatov, Director General of Strategic Policies at Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport, and Kazem Salehi, Director General of Transit, Logistics, and Agreements at Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization.
Under the agreement, both sides agreed to explore the development of a dedicated terminal and logistics center by Uzbek investors in the hinterland of Shahid Rajaee Port, Iran’s largest commercial and container port located in Hormozgan Province.
The MoU commits both governments to facilitate regulatory clearances and operational frameworks needed to support Uzbek private sector involvement in port infrastructure projects.
Following the MoU signing, Minister Makhkamov led a high-level Uzbek delegation on a guided tour of Shahid Rajaee Port, joined by Rasouli and senior PMO officials.
The delegation visited key infrastructure sites, including the Maritime Traffic Control Tower, Container Terminal 2, automated warehouses, and the 2,400-hectare logistics zone.
Makhkamov highlighted the port’s development and strategic importance to regional trade, citing strong potential for Uzbek participation.
