The Indian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) has joined the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) as a full member, strengthening India’s representation within the global shipping industry.
INSA represents Indian shipping companies and plays a key role in fleet development, maritime education and engagement with regulators at national and international level. Its accession increases India’s footprint in global shipping policy discussions.
ICS said INSA’s membership will enhance cooperation across the industry and bring additional regional expertise to its work on seafarer welfare, digitalisation, decarbonisation and ship recycling.
ICS Secretary General Thomas A. Kazakos said India’s growing maritime sector and strategic role in global trade make INSA’s participation particularly valuable. He noted that INSA will contribute through active involvement in ICS committees and panels.
INSA Chief Executive Officer Anil Devli described the move as an important step for Indian shipping. He said it will ensure Indian shipowners have a stronger voice in international policymaking, particularly at the International Maritime Organization.
ICS represents national shipowners’ associations and shipping companies from more than 40 countries and territories, covering the majority of the world’s merchant fleet. The addition of INSA further expands its global representation across major maritime regions.
