The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) and the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) have signed a reciprocal membership agreement to boost cooperation between the dry bulk sector and the marine fuels industry.
The partnership formalises the existing relationship between the two bodies and aims to enhance collaboration on fuel quality, safety, and decarbonisation. Under the agreement, both organisations will benefit from greater access to each other’s expertise, working groups, and initiatives.
The cooperation will support knowledge exchange, joint engagement at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and closer coordination on industry standards. It will also promote safe bunkering practices and help support the transition to low- and zero-carbon fuels.
Alexander Prokopakis, Executive Director of IBIA, said the collaboration will help drive “safe, sustainable, and practical solutions for the future.” Dimitris Monioudis, Chairman of INTERCARGO’s Technical Committee, noted the partnership will provide valuable fuel-related expertise as shipping advances on “safe and pragmatic” decarbonisation pathways.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to working together in support of a safer, more efficient, and sustainable maritime industry.
