GXO Logistics

GXO Logistics and London Luton Airport (LLA) have formed a new partnership to launch the airport’s first consolidation centre, which will screen and manage all airside deliveries.

The centre will streamline operations as passenger numbers and delivery volumes continue to rise. In 2025, Luton handled more than 17.5 million passengers, up from 16.7 million in 2024.

The facility will manage hundreds of thousands of airside deliveries each year. GXO will screen, check and deliver all goods for airside operations, including products for shops and restaurants across the terminal.

Improving efficiency and security

The consolidation centre will centralise deliveries into a single secure hub. This will improve efficiency, reduce congestion and strengthen security across airport operations.

GXO will handle a wide range of cargo, from fashion and cosmetics to electronics and catering supplies.

The centre will be located in one of three hangars being repurposed under an £11.5 million refurbishment programme, which also includes two new aircraft maintenance hangars. The project will create around 150 jobs at the airport.

Digital monitoring and service support

GXO will deploy its bespoke IT system, STREAM, to manage and monitor operations in real time. The system will provide tracking, alerts and performance data to improve service levels and on-time delivery.

Retailers and concessionaires will benefit from real-time visibility, direct access to the centre and 24/7 operational support.

The solution will help keep stores stocked, protect time-sensitive and temperature-controlled goods, and improve passenger experience.

Expanding airport logistics footprint

This project marks a major expansion of GXO’s airport logistics operations in the UK and Ireland. The company has operated airport consolidation centres since 2006.

The partnership strengthens Luton’s logistics infrastructure and positions the airport for future growth in passenger traffic and retail activity.
