GSX Energy has firmed up an order for two additional LNG bunkering vessels at China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE), lifting its series at the yard to four ships.
GSX Energy was formed in October 2025 as a joint venture between Sabrina Chao- and Kenneth Lam-led SeaKapital Holdings, China’s Seacon Shipping and Greek owner Golden Union. The trio teamed up to target the fast-growing LNG bunkering segment, chartering and ordering LNG bunker vessels to support the expanding LNG-fuelled fleet.
Under the original agreement signed last October, the company committed to two firm newbuildings at CIMC SOE, with options for two additional units. The latest order confirms those options, taking the total to four vessels of the same 20,000 cu m design.
The LNG bunkering market has drawn growing attention over the past year, with a wave of newbuilding contracts placed at yards in China and South Korea. The ordering activity has been driven by expectations of continued growth in LNG as a marine fuel, with analysts forecasting more than 1,150 LNG dual-fuel vessels to be in operation globally by 2028.
