GMA Garnet Group (GMA), the world’s largest fully integrated garnet supplier, is marking the first anniversary of its distribution hub in Port Klang.
Since opening in June 2024, the facility has quickly scaled up operations. Today, it handles 71% of GMA’s Asia garnet trade and has become a strategic gateway for the region.
Port Klang’s location at the crossroads of Asia has allowed GMA to cut lead times by up to 21 days and expand market coverage across North East and South East Asia. The move supports growing demand for high-quality garnet in sectors such as marine, oil & gas, infrastructure, and manufacturing.
GMA has invested in safety upgrades at the hub, adding guards around conveyors and improving operational processes to boost efficiency. Strict quality control and staff training programs ensure consistent product standards.
The company also announced a new leadership appointment. Chris Manger, formerly APAC Sales and Marketing Manager, will step into the role of Head of Technical – APAC. He will provide technical leadership and work closely with the sales team to strengthen customer partnerships.
GMA supplies over 600,000 tonnes of garnet annually to more than 100 countries. The Malaysian hub is central to its plan to support APAC’s fast-growing construction and industrial sectors, with the region’s construction market projected to grow 6.8% annually through 2030.
