Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has announced the arrival of a new tugboat, the Shiney V. Moran, at the Port of Brunswick.

Operated by Moran Towing Company, the tugboat joins the Diane Moran as the latest addition to support Brunswick’s ship operations.

In 2024, GPA’s Brunswick terminals recorded 733 vessel calls, including 614 Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vessels, 89 breakbulk carriers, and 30 bulk cargo ships. Vessel docking in Brunswick operates around the clock, seven days a week.

Griff Lynch, GPA President and CEO, highlighted that Moran’s expansion aligns with the port’s ongoing investments in vehicle storage, auto processing capacity, and the development of a fourth RoRo berth.

The Shiney V. Moran and Diane Moran are equipped with 5,100-horsepower engines, delivering over 60 metric tons of bollard pull, significantly boosting the US port’s ability to handle larger vessels safely and efficiently.

The fleet also includes the Ann Moran, a 3,000-horsepower tug currently stationed in Brunswick.

Bruce Fendig, President of the Brunswick Bar Pilots Association, also expressed his satisfaction with the upgrades.

In 2024, the Port of Brunswick emerged as the nation’s busiest gateway for automobiles and heavy machinery, handling over 900,000 units of RoRo cargo.

Additionally, GPA recently completed a US$262 million investment in infrastructure upgrades, including expanded warehousing and enhanced vehicle processing facilities.
