German shipbroker Frachtcontor Junge & Co has expanded its chartering and shipbroking business with the acquisition of Hamburg-based rival HMC Hamburg Maritime Chartering (HMC).
The move marks a significant step in Frachtcontor’s growth strategy to build a stronger and more diversified broking platform, the company noted. HMC, known for its long-standing client base and expertise in tanker chartering, will be integrated under the new name Frachtcontor Tanker Chartering and relocated to Frachtcontor’s headquarters in Hamburg.
Management of the merged operation will be led by Oliver Medri, Jan Heinze, and Jacob Christian Pedersen, who will oversee the gradual integration process. Frachtcontor Junge said it aims to maintain service continuity while combining both firms’ strengths in chartering, project, and sale-and-purchase work.
The acquisition adds scale and capability to Frachtcontor Junge’s existing network, reinforcing its position among Germany’s leading independent brokers. The company said the combined operation will offer clients a “more comprehensive and flexible service platform” spanning tanker, dry, and project markets.
Frachtcontor Junge also highlighted its plan to develop a younger, internationally oriented broking team, blending its maritime heritage with a focus on digitalisation and new markets. The deal underscores the ongoing consolidation trend among European shipbrokers, as firms seek broader service portfolios and global reach in a tightening competitive environment.
