FMC Secures $1.35m in penalties from Hyundai Glovis and Olympiad Line

The US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has collected $1.35m in civil penalties after reaching compromise agreements with two carriers accused of violating the Shipping Act.
The larger settlement — $1.3m — was paid by Hyundai Glovis, the Seoul-based vehicle carrier giant operating across US–foreign trades. FMC investigators alleged the VOCC provided services that were not in accordance with its published tariffs, and in some cases operated without publishing required tariff rates at all. According to the commission, the issues spanned more than a year and involved numerous shipments.
A second agreement, worth $50,000, was reached with NVOCC Olympiad Line, which was accused of offering liner services that deviated from its own published tariff rules and charges.
Both companies agreed to settle but did not admit liability.
