Swedish tanker operator Fjordtank Rederi is bolstering its fleet with the acquisition of the 2005-built chemical tanker from compatriot owner Sirius Shipping.
The 4,500 dwt Lexus, constructed by Ceksan Shipyard in Turkey, is set to join Fjordtank’s ranks in September and will continue flying the Swedish flag upon handover.
Financial terms have not been disclosed. Although originally built for $9m, current market estimates place the vessel’s value closer to $5m, according to pricing platforms tracking the secondhand tanker market.
Post-acquisition, the vessel will be renamed Fjord and deployed under a long-term time charter with physical supplier Bunker One.
“This strengthens our collaboration and reinforces our commitment to delivering reliable bunker services in the region,” Fjordtank said in a statement.
Family-run Fjordtank has been in the business of owning and operating tanker vessels since 2004, and currently owns the 2003-built 1,900 dwt Tresfjord, which is already on charter to Bunker One.
