Rijeka Gateway has initiated full operations through two significant milestones: the arrival of its inaugural commercial vessel, Al Jasrah, and the entry of its first truck during the previous week.

These events collectively signify the transition from testing phases to operational readiness, validated by Occupancy Permit approval.

The terminal constitutes Croatia’s largest private logistics investment, representing a EUR€380 million joint venture between APM Terminals and ENNA Group. Phase one encompasses 400 meters of quay infrastructure, 20-meter depth capacity, and 650,000 TEU annual throughput, with expansion strategies established to exceed one million TEU capacity.

Featuring advanced crane systems, automation technology, and renewable energy infrastructure, Rijeka Gateway establishes new benchmarks for safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

Al Jasrah, measuring 368 meters in length and 51 meters in width, arrived from Port Said, Egypt, operating on the Asia–Europe route. Its arrival positions Rijeka within the Gemini Cooperation between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, establishing it as a strategic terminal within one of the world’s most significant shipping networks.

Peter Corfitsen, CEO of Rijeka Gateway, stated that this terminal transcends mere infrastructure as it symbolizes Rijeka as a modern, sustainable, and technologically advanced port generating value and stimulating both local and national economies.

He expressed also confidence that Rijeka Gateway can become one of the premier terminals in this region, a source of pride for Rijeka and all of Croatia.

The terminal currently employs over 250 individuals who have collectively completed more than 50,000 training hours in operational preparation.

Plans establish up to 60% cargo movement via rail, enhancing regional connectivity and sustainability.

Complementing the terminal, Warehouse 22 in the Metropolis complex has been renovated as Rijeka Gateway’s headquarters, integrating historic preservation with contemporary, seismically secure design.
