Greek owner Evalend Shipping has bolstered its suezmax newbuilding orderbook in South Korea, with two additional units lined up for construction at HD Hyundai Samho.
Shipbuilding sources have named the Kriton Lendoudis-led company behind the recently announced order for a pair of 157,000 dwt newbuilds with delivery expected in April and June 2027.
The scrubber-fitted vessels are understood to be optional newbuilds the company held at the yard after an initial deal was struck for two suezmaxes in May this year.
At the time, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai, said each ship was worth around $89.5m. The latest two are priced slightly lower at $88.9m each.
Shipbuilding databases list Evalend with more than 30 newbuilding projects, the majority of which are energy carrier vessels set to join the fleet of over 50 ships, with more than half currently being bulk carriers.
Earlier this year, the Athens-based company took delivery of two Hyundai Samho-built suezmaxes ordered in April 2023 for a reported price of $85.26m each.
Year to date, most suezmax orders have come from Greek owners, primarily choosing South Korean yards, except Dynacom Tankers, which has a series of newbuilds booked at China’s New Times Shipbuilding.
