EQUANS and INOCEL have announced a partnership to develop an energy storage and production solution utilizing decarbonized hydrogen.

This collaboration combines the expertise of INOCEL, a leader in high-power hydrogen fuel cells, and EQUANS, a global leader in the energy and services sector, to address the challenges of low-carbon energy production. The goal is to provide a turnkey, high-performance, environmentally-friendly energy generation solution for a range of use cases, including:

  • Dockside electrification (cold ironing) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in ports, particularly for ships;
  • Decarbonized propulsion and power generation for ships;
  • Storage of intermittent renewable energies in the form of hydrogen, which can be reused on customer demand;
  • Load shedding and balancing of power grids;
  • Emergency power generation for critical industrial and tertiary infrastructures such as data centers, hospitals, operational buildings, and banks;
  • Mobile generators for sites that are not connected to the electrical grid or need additional power, replacing diesel generators and batteries.

By 2025, INOCEL and EQUANS will be able to offer energy storage and generation solutions ranging from 300 kW to several MW, particularly for port and smart grid infrastructures. These high-power solutions are a key strength and differentiator, enabling companies to effectively commit to renewable energy transition.

Jérôme Stubler, President of EQUANS, stated “Hydrogen must play a key role in the energy transition, and we see immense potential in its development to decarbonize industry and mobility. With INOCEL, we are providing an innovative, high-performance solution to support this strategic development.”

For the hydrogen generator, INOCEL will provide the fuel cell, while EQUANS will handle the containerization. Should the customer require a complete hydrogen solution—including hydrogen production, storage, and energy generation—INOCEL and EQUANS will combine their expertise and leverage their partner networks to cover the entire value chain. This collaboration will allow them to offer a turnkey solution perfectly suited to customer needs.

“This strategic partnership illustrates our commitment to deploying innovative turnkey solutions integrating the entire hydrogen value chain. The collaboration between INOCEL and EQUANS enables us to offer our customer’s energy storage and generation solutions that combine performance, cost-competitiveness and decarbonization,” commented Jules Billiet, INOCEL CEO.

This innovative solution supports the decarbonization of energy, especially in sectors where batteries alone do not provide sufficient autonomy, effectively addressing the specific requirements of diverse applications.
