Milestone for Methanol-to-Power in Maritime Industry
e1 Marine has received an order from PowerCell Group for eight M30 hydrogen reformers to support the first commercial sale of its M2Power 250 system. This marks the first fully integrated methanol-reformer-and-fuel-cell deployment for the marine market. Delivery is scheduled for 2029 and includes product supply and engineering support.

Onboard Hydrogen Production and Efficiency
Each 250 kW M2Power 250 module pairs e1 Marine’s M30 generator with PowerCell’s marine fuel cells to produce clean electrical power. Hydrogen is generated onboard from a methanol and deionized water blend, eliminating the need for high-pressure hydrogen storage. The M30 reformers deliver up to 16.2 kg of fuel cell-grade hydrogen per hour with up to 80% energy efficiency.

Environmental Benefits and Compliance
Powered by renewable methanol, the system cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 85% compared to diesel engines and produces zero NOx, SOx, or particulate matter. The technology is approved in principle by Lloyd’s Register, ABS, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands Maritime Administrator.

Proven Collaboration and Streamlined Integration
The order builds on prior collaborations between e1 Marine and PowerCell, refining mechanical, thermal, and control integration. The plug-and-play approach reduces installation complexity, shortens timelines, and ensures consistent performance.

Industry Impact and Future Demonstrations
The M2Power 250 system simplifies hydrogen adoption for shipyards and operators, offering a complete, efficient, and reliable decarbonization pathway. e1 Marine and PowerCell will showcase their methanol-to-hydrogen and fuel cell technologies at the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, 3–5 December 2025.
