Rotterdam-based CSL OWL Subsea Rock Installation (CSL OWL SRI), a newly formed partnership between The CSL Group and Offshore Wind Logistics, has ordered two subsea rock installation vessels tailored for the offshore renewable energy sector.
Each vessel will have a cargo capacity of 17,500 tonnes and will be equipped with dynamic positioning. They will be able to operate on marine gas oil or methanol. The vessels will be able to deliver subsea rock installation services in water depths up to 100 metres.
The two purpose-built ships will be able to handle rocks weighing up to 450 kg, have a tremie pipe with active motion compensation that ensures precise placement, and transport belts designed to handle rocks weighing up to 1,500 kg.
The value of the order and shipyard were not revealed but the company did state that the first vessel was scheduled for delivery in August 2026, followed by the second vessel in November 2026.
