The newly constructed dock at Milazzo, Sicily, Italy, managed by Duferco Terminal Mediterraneo (DTM), is now officially operational.

Developed by the Duferco Group, the project forms a key part of the broader redevelopment initiative for the Giammoro industrial area, first introduced at the Chamber of Commerce of Messina last year.

With an investment of approximately €28 million (US$32 million), the Duferco Group has transformed the Giammoro area into a state-of-the-art logistics hub designed to serve international trade and support economic development across the Mediterranean.

Once fully operational, the terminal is expected to create 50 jobs.

The milestone was marked by the successful berthing and unloading of the terminal’s first commercial vessel, the Deo Volente, which arrived from the Port of Marghera.

Under the coordination of the Milazzo Port Authority and the Strait Port System Authority, the ship delivered a 130-ton transformer destined for the Raffineria Mediterranea di Milazzo.

Strategically located between Milazzo and Messina, the terminal is positioned to become a vital logistics node facilitating commercial flows between Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

It is designed as an intermodal platform that integrates maritime, road, and rail transport to offer advanced, sustainable logistics solutions.

Domenico Campanella, CEO of Duferco Italia Holding, highlighted that with DTM, they are positioning Sicily as a strategic hub for Mediterranean trade, where technological innovation, performance, and environmental responsibility converge.

DTM is set to welcome its first container ship in June, further expanding its operational capabilities and reinforcing its role as a key player in regional and international supply chains.
