Drone attack damages infrastructure and vessels in Black Sea port of Taman

Russia reported a drone attack damaged infrastructure and vessels in the Black Sea port of Taman, yet another strike on the country’s commodities assets.

According to local sources and Bloomberg, Ukrainian drones struck the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in the village of Volna, Krasnodar Krai, Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed on December 22.

Kyiv Independent invoked a source in Ukraine’s military intelligence agency who told that the Ukrainian strike damaged equipment at the oil terminal, the liquefied hydrocarbon gas pier, and other port infrastructure, triggering a large-scale fire.

Tamanneftegaz operates the Taman transshipment complex, handling crude oil, petroleum products, and liquefied hydrocarbon gases. The complex is one of the largest in the Black Sea region.

The report comes two weeks after a Ukrainian drone attack on Krasnodar Krai’s Temryuk Seaport triggered a massive three-day fire at a liquefied natural gas terminal.

Ukraine has been stepping up attacks on Russian assets at sea, including tankers and oil-field platforms.

Moscow and Kyiv are fighting an increasingly intense energy war to gain meaningful advantage after months of little movement on the frontlines, and amid continuing peace talks.
