Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping has locked in a fresh charter for its 2015-built capesize Santa Barbara at a higher rate with Danish shipowner and operator Norden.
The 179,426 dwt vessel will earn $25,500 per day, minus 5% commission, for a period running from a minimum of March 1, 2027, to a maximum of April 30, 2027.
The new charter is expected to begin on November 29, 2025. Diana said the fixture is expected to generate about $11.5m in gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period.
The vessel is currently fixed to Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) at a lower rate of $22,000 per day, also minus a 5% commission.
The new deal extends the New York-listed owner’s steady flow of period business in the large bulkers market, having recently secured a direct continuation for the 2007-built capesize Semirio with Solebay Shipping. The new deal will run from March 2026 at a daily rate of $21,650, compared with the current rate of $16,650. Earlier this month, Diana also fixed its 2012-built newcastlemax Los Angeles to MOL at $24,000 per day for about a year from November 2025, albeit at a $4,700 lower rate from its previous charter with NYK.
