New York-listed tanker owner DHT Holdings has secured its second high-paying time charter this week, fixing one of its 2012-built VLCCs at $94,000 per day for one year.
The contract, concluded with an unnamed global energy company, is for the 314,200 dwt HD Hyundai Samho-built DHT Taiga and due to start in March this year.
The rate comes in higher than the $90,000 per day deal announced earlier in the week for the same-aged vessel DHT Opal.
Market talk earlier this month had linked DHT Taiga to South Korea’s Hyundai Glovis at $85,000 per day, but the confirmed rate is significantly higher.
The latest deal also edges past a recently reported fixture by Okeanis Eco Tankers, which fixed the 10-year-younger VLCC Nissos Nikouria at $91,140 per day for one year.
Brokers report that several modern VLCCs have also recently been discussed at rates north of $100,000 per day for 12-month cover.
